Burnt Pine – Norfolk Island

Burnt Pine is the largest settlement and de-facto capitol of Norfolk Island, an external Australian territory.

Norfolk IslandOriginally settled by the Polynesians, the beautiful Norfolk Island was “discovered” by Captain Cook in 1774. Many of his crew and others settled there, and their descendents can still be found on the island with laid-back and easy-going attitudes. While Burnt Pine has in the past been pegged a retiree’s destination, it has become increasingly popular in recent years among a diverse group of tourists. Thrill-seekers have begun to flock to the island in order to enjoy its mountain biking, sea kayaking and horse riding among other activities.

Beyond adventure, Burnt Pine is also notable for nature. Phillip Island off of Emily Bay provides visitors with the possibility to come across rare and interesting wildlife largely inexistent in other parts of Australia and the world. Those heading to Phillip Island should also check out Kingston’s impeccably preserved penal colony.

Not an outdoors adventure type? Not to worry. Burnt Pine is also extremely popular as a great place for shopping. Because Burnt Pine is located on an external territory, shopping in the area is duty free. Visitors will be sure to stop by the number of duty free shops and boutiques in the city, which is Norfolk Island’s commercial hub.

And although tourists will certainly want to be out and about on the island and in the town, they will also be sure to stay in a comfortable Burnt Pine accommodation option.
The Cascade Garden Apartments are a great choice for those looking for a stylish and homey place to stay. The apartments overlook the Pacific Ocean. They are fully equipped with modern conveniences such as a television, refrigerator and stove, meaning visitors will feel right at home. Conveniently located just minutes away from a number of local attractions such as shopping centers and a golf course, some of the great features of the Cascade Garden Apartments include a hired car, a bottle of wine, a breakfast pack and a toiletries starter pack.

For a more rustic stay, visitors should look into the Poinciana Cottages. These five secluded cabins have beautiful views of the valleys and the mountains that surround. They are equipped with king-sized beds, cable television, dishwashers and private balconies as well.

Burnt Pine may not be the best-known vacation destination, but it should definitely be considered.
